Through DOB’s eRecords Management System, the public can find building permits, applications, invoices, plans, and Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) permits.
Our goal is the orderly safekeeping of all essential agency records to ensure their preservation and accessibility for District residents and businesses.
Major Update Launched
On Friday, August 16, 2026, DOB launched a major update to eRecords with the following enhancements: (1) simpler, more intuitive search; (2) improved login experience; (3) better navigation; and (4) seamless operation in any modern browser, on any device.

Quick Facts
- Need a copy of issued C of Os?: Contact DOB directly at the link above. The cost is $20.00 for a certified copy and $7.00 for a standard copy.
- DOB might not have all records: For example, some records are housed by the National Archives, and DOB may not have building plans from 1995-1998.
- Some records may take longer to retrieve: Records between 1963 – 2011 can be requested from DOB; however, because they are housed offsite, it may take additional retrieval time.
