In observance of the Christmas Day holiday, DOB will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, 2024; no construction will be allowed on this day without an after-hours permit. You may report illegal construction by submitting an Illegal Construction Inspection Request Form during normal business hours or by calling 311.

Our mission is to provide the residents of the District of Columbia with the highest quality records center. DOB works to safeguard document integrity and the orderly safekeeping of all essential departmental records that will ensure the preservation and accessibility of those records.

Quick Facts

  • Requesting copies of issued Certificates of Occupancy can be made with DOB directly. The cost will be $20.00 for a Certified Copy and $7.00 for a standard copy.
  • For those who are looking for Building Plans from 1995-1998. DOB does not have Building Plans from the years 1995-1998.
  • Records between 1963 – 2011 can be requested from DOB; however, please note that they are housed offsite, which can lead to additional retrieval time being needed.
