Department of Buildings

DOB is excited to introduce Pop-Up Permits (PUPs), our new pilot program for customers to get a streamlined Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for temporary use of a previously vacant building for up to one (1) year - all without going through the traditional permitting process to maximize the time the space can operate. Learn more about Pop-Up Permits (PUPs).

Building Permit Extension

Permit Description

A permit extension can be requested for an unexpired permit – a permit that has not met its expiration date listed on the permit or a permit that has received an approved inspection within the year. If approved, an extension can be granted for a period of six months per extension, with a maximum of four total extensions not to exceed a two-year period. Extension requests include all construction and trade permits (Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Boiler permits).

Submission Requirements

  1. Please ensure that all inspections under the permit have been recorded with DOB for our review. You may verify the latest inspection activity for your permit using our SCOUT database.

Application Process

  1. Begin your permit application under the permit type of Building Permit Extension.
  2. Complete all required questions/fields (i.e., enter the original permit number).
  3. Upload all supporting documents before completing your submission.
  4. Applications are reviewed electronically by the next business day.
