DOB Issues Stop Construction Order Effective 7:00 PM Tonight, November 4, 2024, for Howard University Area

Work stoppage is due to Vice President Kamala Harris’s election night watch party

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Beginning 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, the Department of Buildings (DOB) is prohibiting all construction activity near Howard University as a result of Vice President Kamala Harris’s election night watch party scheduled for Tuesday, November 5, 2024. This work stoppage is necessary due to security measures, road closures, and parking restrictions.

Contractors in the affected areas identified in the Road Closure Map should begin immediately securing their sites. Your respective construction site/project/work zone should be securely closed and all materials and equipment— such as bricks, concrete, barriers, tools—are secured within your locked worksite.  More specifically, anything within your permitted work site that can possibly be used as a projectile should be out of immediate reach of the public before 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024.

Contractors should prepare to have no access to the sites potentially through Sunday, November 10, 2024, or earlier if the U.S. Secret Service determines the security measures are no longer necessary.
