The Resident Inspector Program was launched In 2019 by DOB’s predecessor agency—the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs—to train District residents to perform various types of inspections for a set fee. The program currently is not accepting applications.
DOB is sharing these other helpful resources for those interested in building safety careers:
- Safety 2.0: The International Code Council’s (ICC) signature initiative to welcome a new generation of members and leaders to the building safety profession.
- ICC Building Safety Career Path Initiative: Shares information on job type, training, and mentorship opportunities.
- DC Government Career Opportunities: DOB posts various building safety positions when available.
- Department of Employment Services: Provides resources for jobseekers that include apprenticeships, workshops, a job board, and hiring events.
- DC Infrastructure Academy: Recruits, screens, and trains District residents to take on infrastructure careers with leading companies.
- The Community Services Agency of the Metropolitan Washington Council AFL-CIO: Works with government and private organizations to help low-income individuals enter jobs in growing industries.
