    This first installment explores why DOB inspects housing in the first place, and how complaint-based inspections serve as a critical tool to identify hazards, protect tenants, and support safe and healthy homes across the District.

    Keith also provides helpful insight from both the tenant and landlord perspectives, highlighting how DOB balances the needs of both through thoughtful enforcement.

    Recently, we witnessed a powerful example of what is possible when District government agencies work together to resolve residents’ concerns about the cleanliness of their neighborhoods.

    Late last Friday, community members in historic #AnacostiaDC notified the District Government about mounds of trash and tires accumulating in a shared alley behind two properties on V Street SE and 15th Street SE, creating both an eyesore and public health concern.

    By Monday morning, #TeamDOB’s abatement crew was on the ground. They cleared the debris and ensured the discarded tires were organized for pick up by our partners at the DC Department of Public Works. A DOB housing inspector also assessed the properties for any additional housing violations.

    If you notice unsafe or unsanitary conditions in your neighborhood, call 311 or visit 311.dc.gov so they can be reported to the appropriate agencies.
